Assetto Corsa Evo: What we know so far

(This article will be updated as new information becomes available)
v1 23rd May 2024
v2 28th June 2024

With an early access touted for Summer 2024, we are starting to get really excited about what might be the direction of Assetto Corsa Evo, the new name for what was originally called Assetto Corsa 2 (although we all knew that it couldn’t end up being called that as ACC files are marked AC2!). The adding of a Steam page for the title on 27th June has given us some further ideas of what might be around the corner.

Is it going to be just a new Assetto Corsa?

A lot of the hope amongst racers is that this is a modern version of the classic Assetto Corsa which is still going strong 10+ years after its release, but ACC wasn’t just a sequel, so will Evo be?

The likelihood is that the answer lies somewhere between yes and no. There has been no suggestion of a single-class spin-off like ACC, but actually very little is known.

Rumours have touted ideas including some open world elements but still with a focus on racing.

We now know it will involve both road and race cars (just like AC) and will not be tied to a single class or series.

The beautiful new Alpine A290 makes a welcome appearance

Kunos spoke to Overtake.gg earlier this year and said… “The new Assetto Corsa is going to follow what we did with Assetto Corsa 1,” before adding, “Yet, it is not just a sequel, it is much, much, more. It’s definitely not a spin-off like Competizione.”

Mods or no mods?

The big question everyone seems to be focused on is will Evo allow mods?

Given that Kunos said it will follow what they did with AC1, and the fact the modding community has kept the title alive, you’d have to assume that mods will be allowed.

Hello Hyundai...

Maybe as it is now 2024 it will be a more refined system. Like a browsable workshop in game or a similar approach?

What features do we know about already?
The images released on Steam tell us a bit about the environment by including track images both in the dark and the day time. But in a big step forwards from the original AC, AC Evo also features weather cycles.

Pictures show beautifully detailed tracks and hyper realistic wet surfaces, including awkward looking puddles.

Will my PC cope?
Well that depends on what you have of course... but what we can tell you is that the minimum and recommended specs have been released and it's certainly a little more hungry than AC, but still within the reach of many racers.

Interestingly an SSD is listed as required, even in the minimum specs.

For you VR users you will be thrilled to see that VR support is listed in the specs too!

Will Assetto Corsa Evo be available on Simracing.GP?

The short answer is yes. The longer version is that nobody yet knows what the multiplayer and server provision model will be, but if there is a capability to integrate the SGP infrastructure then we will do it asap on release.
