Valencia GT3 Track Guide - Assetto Corsa Competizione

In this guide, Jon Earle walks us through a lap at Valencia in the McLaren 720S GT3. This technical circuit requires precision and smoothness to excel, with well-placed braking points and an emphasis on maximising corner exits. Follow Jon's tips to refine your lap times and improve your racing consistency.

Start/Finish Straight & Turn 1

  • Approach: Carry as much speed as possible down the main straight.
  • Braking: Spot the white marker on the left and brake hard.
  • Turn-in: Drop to fourth gear and aim for the apex.
  • Exit: Use all the space on the outside curb, ensuring your car remains within track limits.

Turn 2 (Hairpin)

  • Braking: On the white line, brake hard and downshift to first gear.
  • Turn-in: Rotate the car sharply, then short-shift to second gear for stability.
  • Exit: Use as much exit curb as possible without exceeding track limits, and go full throttle as soon as the car is stable.

Turn 3-4

  • Turn 3: Brake on the white line and take plenty of inside curb. Run wide over the green painted curb on the exit.
  • Turn 4: As you straighten up, brake and turn in, clipping the apex. Run wide again, keeping two wheels inside the track limits.

Turn 5-6 (Late Apex Hairpin)

  • Braking: Spot the white marker and brake hard.
  • Turn-in: Hug the apex tightly with a late turn-in for Turn 6.
  • Exit: Run the car wide, ensuring two wheels stay over the white line to avoid penalties.

Turn 7-8 (Kink and Hairpin)

  • Turn 7: Approach the kink at full throttle but prepare to brake on the white line for Turn 8.
  • Turn 8: Downshift to second gear and hug the apex closely. Be smooth with the throttle to avoid losing traction.

Turn 9-10 (Double Apex and Hairpin)

  • Turn 9: Take a lot of inside curb, but brake as you exit the curb.
  • Turn 10: Downshift to second gear, aiming for a late apex. Get on the throttle early to maximise your exit speed.

Turn 11-12 (Final Corners)

  • Turn 11: Brake hard at the white line. Clip the inside curb and let the car run out wide to the right.
  • Turn 12: Stay smooth through this high-speed left. With a good setup, the car should remain stable.
  • Final Corner: Brake just after the first white line, turn in gently, and accelerate hard on the exit. Be mindful of track limits on the outside curbs.

Summary

Valencia is a demanding circuit where precise braking and careful corner exits are vital. Focus on hitting your braking points and maintaining smooth, controlled lines to optimise lap times. Master the hairpins and late apexes to keep your momentum strong throughout the lap.
