Setting Up and Using Overall Points in Championships and Series

Learn how to set up and use overall points in Simracing.GP championships and race series. Discover the benefits of overall points for organizing races and enhancing competition. Optimize your race tournaments with this comprehensive guide.

Introduction to Overall Points

Simracing.GP has introduced a new feature called overall points in championships, allowing racers to earn points as a single class in addition to class points during multiclass races. This feature is optional for organizers and can be particularly beneficial when classes are defined by driver levels (e.g., Pro, Am) but the cars have similar performance levels. This dual points system encourages competition for both overall and class points, adding an extra layer of excitement to the races.

Benefits of Overall Points for Organizing Races

  1. Enhanced Competition: Overall points create an additional competitive element, motivating drivers to perform well not just within their class but across all classes.
  2. Flexibility for Organizers: Organizers can choose to implement overall points, allowing them to tailor the competition format to their specific needs and preferences.
  3. Balanced Performance: When cars have similar performance levels, overall points ensure that the best drivers are recognized, regardless of their class.
  4. Comprehensive Leaderboards: Overall points are tracked alongside class points, providing a more comprehensive view of driver performance throughout the championship.

Impact on Race Tournament Organization

  1. Diverse Race Formats: Simracing.GP's unique tournament format - Series allows for a variety of race types within a tournament. Each race can differ in class, car selection, or even the game used (e.g., Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, RaceRoom, Automobilista 2). This diversity keeps the competition fresh and engaging.
  2. Consistent Scoring: Drivers accumulate points from each race, which are added together to determine the overall standings. This consistent scoring system ensures that every race counts towards the final outcome.
  3. Parallel Leaderboards: The use of overall points in parallel with class leaderboards provides a dual perspective on driver performance, making the competition more dynamic and interesting for participants and spectators alike.
  4. Adaptability to Championship Formats: Overall points can be used in strict championship formats where drivers race with the same car throughout the tournament, as well as in multiclass formats, offering versatility in race organization.

Example: 90’s BTCC Cars

For instance, you can create a tournament where drivers compete for overall points with old BTCC cars and compete in each make (BMW, Volvo, or Nissan) class. This setup allows drivers to aim for both overall and class victories, enhancing the competitive spirit and engagement.

How to setup overall points

Simracing.GP makes it simple to set up overall points for your Series or Championship.

To enable this feature, just check the “Count overall points” box in the “Scoring rules” tab when creating your Series or Championship. The system will automatically generate a new overall points table based on your main (class) points table. If needed, you can customize the overall points table values.

In multiclass championships or series races, separate tables for Overall and each class points will be included. You can also make points adjustments to both overall and class results.
